While gear geeks are still obsessing over the recent Interbike cycling convention, car enthusiasts have been checking out the Frankfurt Motor Show and it turns out that the automotive extravaganza has a few things for cyclists, too. One model that caught our attention was Honda’s new Civic Tourer Active Life Concept—a car designed for stowing bikes for all of your adventures, without looking like mini-van or monster SUV.

Auto makers have developed many adventure vehicles recently, but most are clunkier, larger models, like Sprinters, pickups retrofitted with truck tents, and bank account-dissolving EarthRoamers. The Active Life Concept marks a shift away from size-is-king, and neatly integrates cycling functionality into fun-to-drive car models.

One of the coolest bike-friendly features of the Active Life Concept is its "smart-loading rack,” which allows users to store up to two bikes inside the car and away from the elements. The rack also has a retractable arm that extends out, essentially putting your bike on a stand. Other maintenance accessories include an integrated air pump, a large flood-like tailgate light, an extended shade area, and even a retractable bench.

But it’s the little details that have cyclists hoping this concept makes it to production: Inside, this Civic Tourer boasts a toolbox, bottle holder, water tank, and front wheel holder. There’s also a special roof box designed to accommodate accessories like shoes and helmets.

Another bonus: According to Honda, the Active Life Concept will boast award-winning fuel efficiency. No word on when this car will actually be available to the cycling masses, or how much it will cost, but it’s a great sign that cyclists are being taken seriously by car companies.
